Starting to Paint Molly the Havanese
Meet Molly, a Havanese I recently painted. Molly is a 3 year old Havanese. She is very sweet, happy, and loving and she’s very attached to her family. They spoil her every chance they get. This photo is of the first rough stage of painting. One of the initial challenges was that the photo I wanted to work from was a shot of Molly sitting on a person’s knee. As including a partial knee wouldn’t really make the painting better, I had to find a different answer. As the client wanted Molly shown outdoors, I decided to make Molly look as if she were resting on some stone in a green setting. The other challenge would be pulling some details out of areas that are either too dark or too light in the photo.
