Adding Details to a Cavalier Painting

Even though my new puppy is totally adorable–I am, in fact, getting work done too. This portrait of two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has had quite a bit more painting done to it in this photo. You can see that through a series of small brushstrokes, I’ve built up the fur, worked the eyes and added dimension the the head. Cavaliers have wonderful fur to paint, a lot like human hair–it cascades and feathers, looking very much like a lace cravat on their namesake, the gentleman Cavalier.
