Chocolate Lab Early Painting Stage

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted as I’ve been away traveling–getting inspired by new and beautiful places. My last post on Bear showed the sketch I did prior to painting. This is the first overall layer of rough paint.

I feel this painting is going to be all about getting those warm autumn colors working in harmony so I cover the entire canvas with color and will work the details in on top of that. I’m using big brushes on this first pass, and focusing on laying in the masses. There isn’t going to be a lot of light/dark contrast in this painting–I want it to feel softer than that.
