I started my portrait of Ruby and Lu a bit differently than I usually do. I generally start by laying in a rough all-over first layer of paint, and then refining it on additional layers. This time I dove right in and painted Ruby’s head in a fair amount of detail. Why? Truthfully, I haven’t a clue 🙂

It’s always fun to try going at a project in a new way–and sometimes, new approaches can result in some surprising and satisfying outcomes.
