Finished Portrait of Two
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
This is what it looks like when I put it all together in the finished portrait. I’m particularly happy with how the feathering on both dogs turned out with its fine detailing. I also like how the traditional muted green background matches the historic nature of this very old breed.
This painting had some challenges for me to overcome too. The reference photos were all shot under different lighting conditions which meant I needed to find the right balance in the painting to make the lighting feel consistent on both subjects. Also both dogs were shot in harnesses–so I needed to refer to other photos in order to create the fur on their chests.
This was painted as a wedding gift–and to me, the two dogs together in their portrait are a nice reflection of the marriage.
What a wonderful picture – – love it!
