Finished Portrait of a Yorkie
I really loved painting little Mel with her expressive eyes and small black button of a nose. Yorkshire Terriers have wonderful coloring–caramel, gold and slate gray edging into silver. It’s always a fun challenge to try to capture it. Usually I layer lots and lots of brushstrokes that start from the darkest tones and that keep getting lighter as they pile up. This was a small painting, so the layering process didn’t really take all that long before it started to give a nice result.
I hope this little painting will sit on a desk or shelf–and give Mel’s pet mom a happy feeling every time she sees it.
