From Havana to a Home
When I start a pet portrait, I always ask to hear about the pet’s history because I feel like the more I know, the better I can catch what makes an animal special. Little Coppelia was found wandering in the streets of Havana, and brought home by her guardian. She was a sweet, gentle and very smart dog and loved being held like a baby. Sadly she had passed on, and I was asked to create a portrait to remember her by. This is the sketch I started from.
You can pull me in every time with the detail of their eyes. Just beautiful!
Ive got to get this lady a pic of my dogs to do! It will be like having them with me again!
Probably one of the best parts of doing my paintings is the reaction I get from the people who have lost pets–when they receive their painting, they often cry and tell me they feel like they have their dog or cat back–and THAT makes me cry too.
