Painting Three Havanese
It’s been far too long since I’ve posted. Between the holiday rush and the fact I took an unexpected trip to the ER (all fine now), I have been taking a break from social media. But it’s a new year and time to get back to showing you what I’ve been painting.
I was commissioned to paint a large portrait of three Havanese who were referred to affectionately by their human as the “Tres Amigos” named Paco, Julio and Manny. The painting would be 24″ x 18″ in acrylic which is what I use to paint nearly all my pet portraits.
I was lucky enough to have an excellent photo to work with that needed only a little fine tuning to make the eyes more visible and pretty up the background. I asked the owner to also send me some photos of the plants found in her Southwestern yard– I used these as reference for the flowers in the background behind the “bridge” to add some color to the composition.
I started the painting with a pencil sketch shown here. Then later added color digitally in Photoshop so the client would have a clear idea of what the finished art would look like.
We LOVE our portrait of our tres amigos. Makes me smile every day! Sorry to hear of your health issues, Hope, and glad everything is okay now.
Such an exciting process and Hope keeps you updated with each stage of the portrait creation. Such a treasure!
Thanks for the kind thoughts–I’ll be posting the process every few days. So happy you love your painting of those handsome boys.
Awww I can’t wait to see the Three Amigos’ painting. It’s going to be beautiful, for sure. Mary
I’m so excited to see the painting you do of my grandpups. I know it will be as beautiful and special as my painting of Candy. <3
