This is the start of a painting of Buck the Cat which will be a gift for my niece. He is her much beloved companion and never far from her side. As she describes him, Buck is “…somewhere between a mama’s boy and a grumpy Gus”. He has an intense curiosity and is constantly patrolling his universe, with the operative word being “HIS”. Her one request was that the background be largely light, with little color and minimal feeling.

This painting will be an 11″ x 14″ in oils on an archival panel. I’m the fortunate aunt of some pretty wonderful nieces and a nephew. I decided this year, that (with plenty of time due to Covid) it was time to gift each of my nieces with a painting of their respective pets. Maybe after competing them, I’ll finally get around to painting my own little dog.
