Starting Kendall the Aussiepoo’s Portrait

This is the start to the companion painting to Kole’s portrait that I showed last week. It will be the same size–12″ x 12″. And I’ve chosen a background that should use the same colors and generally be harmonious to the previous painting. Kendall has totally amazing blue eyes and I couldn’t wait to paint them–so they were my starting point. I generally work my pet portraits from dark to light by laying down a base of the darkest tone in each color area. Then I layer progressively lighter colored strokes on top.
