I started painting the portrait from the middle out. So the first little Havanese I worked on was Elmo, the mainly black pup with some white and gray in his fur.

I’m working in oil for this painting and usually this means the overall effect is a bit softer than my acrylic paintings. Because the paint dries more slowly, you have time when the paint is more fluid, and easier to push around.

Like most of you, I’m currently spending my time at home and practicing social distancing. One thing I’m thankful for, is that my social media feeds are almost entirely filled with pictures and posts of fabulous art by other artists and photos of all kinds of animals. In times like these, it’s nice to take a break from the news and look at things that simply make me happy.
