I’m continuing to work on Buck’s portrait by laying in a solid layer of oil paint. I’m trying to get the overall tones established and always go for the darker shades first, then layer lighter brushstrokes on top for the fur. This stage is where I get a sense of where the painting is going to go. It’s still a bit rough at this point and I’m looking forward to the next phase where all the details and refinements happen.

I paint many more dogs than cats and really welcome the challenge of working on a different type of animal. It’s always a learning experience. Lately I’ve been painting quite a few wolves as well as some of the big cats in my personal work which I share from time to time. I’m always game for anything though and hope that my future clients will bring me not only more cats, but also rabbits, hamsters and any other type of pet they love.
