I started my painting of Pac the Black Lab by switching it up a bit. I laid down a layer of yellow ocher paint as a complementary color (meaning the opposite) to what would be a predominantly blue and green painting. This can add a certain energy and vibrance to a painting–even if you don’t realize the complementary color is there. The yellow also helps to give a subtle linkage to the companion painting for this one that I did awhile ago. The previous painting was all warm golden colors. My idea was that the paintings would have almost opposite color schemes–but would also have similar composition and scale so they work as a set.

This is the first painting of Tara, a Yellow Lab. I kept the heads of the dogs the same size between the two paintings.
